The myth of Isis and Osiris is the most detailed and influential story among all ancient Egyptian myths.

The tale revolves around the murder of the god Osiris, the pharaoh of Egypt, and the consequences of this crime. After Osiris was killed, his murderer and brother Set usurped the throne.

Meanwhile, Isis wandered the land in search of her husband’s body until she found it in Byblos. However, Set managed to steal the corpse, cut it into forty-two pieces, and scatter them across the regions of Egypt.

Isis did not give up — she gathered the scattered parts of Osiris’s body, conceived a son, and later gave birth to Horus. Osiris then became the ruler of the underworld.

The rest of the story centers on Horus, the child born from the union of Isis and Osiris, who at first was a weak and vulnerable child protected by his mother. As he grew, he became Set’s rival for the throne.

The conflict between Set and Horus—marked by violence and struggle—ended with Horus’s victory, restoring to Egypt the order that had been lost under Set’s rule.

Afterward, Horus completed the resurrection of Osiris.

This myth, rich in complex symbolism, reflects the Egyptian concepts of kingship, succession, and the eternal struggle between order and chaos, as well as the themes of death and rebirth.
